Carpet Care Tips

Most carpeting takes a beating each day, through regular traffic, spills, and use. With proper care, you can prolong the life of your carpet and keep it looking great!

Basic Carpet Maintenance

Of course, vacuming carpet regularly is the first line of defense. Left on the carpet, dirt can weaken dull the finish of the carpet fibers and combine with oily residue and glue itself to the carpet. This results in dull, flat carpets.

To help prevent this problem, vacuum your carpets at least once per week, more often for high-traffic areas.

Carpet Stains

When spills occur, clean them immediately. Stains will be easier to clean soon after the spill. Don't ignor clear stains as these can discolor over time and attract dirt.

First, blot up the liquid. Don't add cleaners or liquids as they will only make the spot larger and cause it to sink into the carpet. Using a paper towel or rag, absorb as much liquid as possible. Never allow a urine stain to dry, it can leave a permanent stain. Sugary colored drinks, mustard, or ketchup can often create a permanent stain - acting fast can help avoid this.

If you use a cleaning solution, test on an inconspicusous part of the carpet first and make sure to follow the product's directions. If the solution discolors your test area, call Palmer's Cleaning as soon as possible.

  • If the spot test caused no problems, use these additional tips:
  • Less is more - use the minimum amount of solution possible.
  • To avoid speading the stain, always work from the outside in.
  • Avoid scrubbing or brushing the carpet too hard, this can cause damage.
  • Dry carpets quickly. A fan can help.

If your attempt to clean the stain fail, the experts at Palmer's can help! Remember to have your carpets professionally cleaned on a regular basis!
